Tas: Sacked workers offered uni scholarships

Workers being made redundant from machinery giant Caterpillar in Tasmania will have
the opportunity to go back to school.

The company plans to cut 280 jobs from its Burnie plant .. and the University of Tasmania
is offering redundant employees scholarships worth from four to eight thousand 600 dollars
to study a course of their choice.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor DAVID RICH says the university views the deal as an important
part of its contribution to the community.

Professor RICH says like any aspiring uni student .. workers will need to meet admission
requirements.
