FED: Minor reshuffle approved by ADA

CANBERRA, April 1 AAP - Kevin Rudd's decision to relieve Greg Combet of some of his
responsibilities has been welcomed by the Australian Defence Association.

Prime Minister Rudd announced on Thursday he would hand responsibility for defence
personnel to Veterans Affairs Minister Alan Griffin.

Mr Combet has, over time, taken on an increasing number of portfolios and most recently
was asked to fix the failed home insulation program.

"It's a good idea," association boss Neil James told AAP.

For some years Mr James has been calling for similar moves, saying the defence department
needs more attention in cabinet and across the frontbench.

"It's a measure forced on them by Combet's workload," he said.

Mr Rudd confirmed the changes will be made formal by Governor-General Quentin Bryce
at a ceremony at Admiralty House on Thursday.
